About Lydia

Healing is not about becoming someone new.
It’s about coming home to yourself.

I’m Lydia Storey-Lopez, MA, LPC, LAC, EMDRIA Certified — a Colorado Licensed Professional Counselor serving adults throughout Colorado through Second Sunrise Therapy PLLC.

A Little About Me

Experienced, grounded, and genuinely curious about what makes people who they are.

I have spent more than 25 years in the helping profession, and that experience has shaped the way I sit with people: with curiosity, respect, humor when it fits, and a deep belief that our patterns make sense when we understand where they came from.

I’m especially drawn to people who have been carrying a great deal for a long time. They may be responsible, capable, successful, and the person everyone else relies on—while privately feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected, inadequate, or like they should somehow be doing better.

My work is not about fixing what is “wrong” with you. It is about understanding what happened, what your mind and nervous system learned to do to protect you, and what becomes possible when those patterns no longer have to run the show.

I get genuinely excited when I see people begin breaking down the barriers that have kept them from living their best lives. There is something powerful about watching someone move from knowing what they “should” do to actually feeling free enough to choose what matters to them.

What I Believe

Symptoms make sense.

The anxious part. The overachieving part. The part that avoids. The part that shuts down. The part that is always waiting for something to go wrong.

Those patterns usually developed for a reason. Rather than treating them as enemies, we can become curious about them. Healing can happen when you understand the protective job a pattern was trying to do and discover that you have more choices now.

My Approach

Structured but not rigid. Deep but carefully paced.

I integrate EMDR with ego state (parts) work and nervous-system regulation, drawing from other evidence-informed approaches when they fit the person in front of me.

I believe you remain in control throughout the process. We work collaboratively and at a pace that allows the work to be useful rather than overwhelming.

My work is structured but not rigid, deep but carefully paced, and compassionate without losing sight of meaningful movement.

Why “Second Sunrise”?

A second sunrise represents renewal.

It doesn’t erase the darkness. It honors that you survived it.

Healing is not about rewriting your story — it’s about reclaiming authorship of your future.

If you're ready to start breaking down the barriers between where you are and the life you want, I'd be honored to walk alongside you.
